Recently, a container ship encountered a critical failure with its main engine cooling system while navigating near the port. The vessel reported a sudden "High Lube Oil Inlet Temperature" alarm, followed shortly by a "Low Lube Oil Pressure" alarm, forcing the captain to request an emergency anchor drop to prevent severe engine damage.
Wancum Mechanical & Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. received the distress call and immediately dispatched our emergency technical team to the vessel upon its berthing.
Fault Diagnosis & Inspection
Upon boarding, our senior engineers conducted a comprehensive inspection of the main engine room. The initial investigation revealed the following issues:
• Seawater Leakage: Significant seawater leakage was found at the upper end cover of the No. 2 Main Cooling Seawater Pump.
• Component Failure: The fastening bolts on the pump body were found fractured due to long-term corrosion and abnormal vibration.
• Secondary Damage: Seawater had entered the main engine lube oil circulation sump through a missing access door, causing the lube oil to emulsify and deteriorate.
Repair & Replacement Solution
To ensure the vessel's safe and timely departure, Wancum provided a complete repair and parts replacement solution:
• Pump Overhaul: We completely disassembled the No. 2 seawater pump. The damaged upper end cover and fractured bolts were removed.
• Genuine Parts Replacement: We supplied and installed brand-new, high-quality fastening bolts and sealing O-rings compatible with the pump's original specifications.
• Lube Oil System Restoration: Assisted the crew in replacing the emulsified lube oil in the main engine circulation system to restore lubrication performance.
• System Testing: Conducted multiple operation tests to ensure zero leakage and stable pressure.
Result & Client Feedback
After nearly 12 hours of intensive (emergency repair), the No. 2 Main Cooling Seawater Pump was fully restored to normal operation with no signs of leakage. The main engine lube oil pressure remained stable, successfully eliminating the safety hazard.
Client Feedback:
"Wancum's rapid response and professional technical support were crucial in minimizing our downtime. The quality of the replacement parts and the expertise of the repair team exceeded our expectations."
